Coach Mike's dedication to
basketball has allowed him to accomplish so much. He takes great pride in helping a player
excel at the sport. Mike has learned from some of the best, including Lindsay
Strothers, Hall of Famer Howie Landa, Mary Hauser, and other great coaches. He has worked
with players at all levels from all over the United States, as well as Canada, England,
France, Spain, Germany, Norway, and Jamaica. Some of the players coached by Mike have gone
on to play professionally in Spain, Japan, China, Lebanon, and Israel, and collegiately
throughout the United States.
He has recently graduated with a Master's degree in Physical
Education from Arizona State University. Mike first attended Cal State Northridge, before
transferring to William Penn University in Iowa to play basketball after being discovered
during a charity basketball game. Following a leg injury, Mike transferred to University
of Nevada, Las Vegas, graduating in May 2008 with a degree in University Studies -
Kinesiology and Physical Education.
Mike has been
coaching basketball for many years. He has worked with many high school teams in Los
Angeles and Ventura counties in California, as well as Centennial High School in Las
Vegas, Nevada (2008-2009 Nevada State Champions!) and schools in the
Phoenix, AZ area. Mike has worked camps for UCLA,
Arizona, Syracuse, University of Washington, University of San Diego, Seattle Supersonics,
Philadelphia 76ers, and Five-Star Basketball. He has also coached various club programs,
started and ran a Jr. Lakers league for the Triunfo YMCA, was
Director of Basketball for the Mesa i9sports league, and served various positions on
the Board of Directors for the Agoura Youth Basketball Association.
While attending
UNLV, Mike spent two seasons as the Associate Head coach to Dan Savage for the Las Vegas
Stars of the International Basketball League. While with the Stars, they set the scoring
record in professional basketball by scoring 206 points in one game, defeating the Phoenix
Flame, 206-147. He also temporarily worked with the Santa Barbara Breakers, giving
him a great opportunity to coach some NBA and international players.
Mike is currently the Assistant Women's Basketball Coach at
Willamette University.
Mike has appeared on the Kidz n' Sports radio show with Coach Mike Davis and
the True Journey Radio Show with Miss Mary & Dr. Janet Arceneaux (click
to listen). He has also completed a study on his athletic
development program that showed great results and writes
articles for affiliate, The Sports Family Club website. He
recently went to Houston to coach at the Xtreme Heat Sports and USA
Select European Pro Exposure Camp.
